Conditional Random Quantities and Iterated Conditioning in the Setting of Coherence

We consider conditional random quantities (c.r.q.’s) in the setting of coherence. Given a numerical r.q. X and a non impossible event H, based on betting scheme we represent the c.r.q. X|H as the unconditional r.q. XH + μH c , where μ is the prevision assessed for X|H. We develop some elements for an algebra of c.r.q.’s, by giving a condition under which two c.r.q.’s X|H and Y|K coincide. We show that X|HK coincides with a suitable c.r.q. Abstract In this paper we analyse the efficiency of the sports betting market, seeking to ascertain whether the market is efficient in the case of fixed odds provided by bookmakers in the four major European soccer leagues under the semi-strong efficiency hypothesis. By examining the trends of odds in the event of a major change in expectations about team results, i.e. when the head coach of a team is replaced, we attempt to verify the argument that a profitable strategy for the bettor is likely to be possible. The essay analyzes the recent regulatory and jurisprudential developments in gaming and betting, focusing peculiarly on the public administration’s responsibility pro le for the act committed by its concessionaires towards the consumer. The script criticized, in particular, the orientation of the Court of Cassation according to which the supervisory and control powers weighting on the p.a. towards the gaming and betting concessionaire give rise to indirect liability pursuant to art. 2049 of the Italian Civil Code.

The essay illustrates some critical aspects regarding the contractual relations between online gambling service providers and the community of online gamblers. Such kind of agreements, given their trans-border nature and the electronic environment, imply mostly unexplored matters related to conflict of laws' matters (applicable law and jurisdiction), place of conclusion, and consumer/user protection.
